Did GTA 6's Extended Look Reveal Any Cheat Codes?

Short answer: no. Rockstar showed 26 minutes of GTA 6 gameplay on August 27 and not one cheat code appeared in any of it.

That's the honest headline, and you won't find it stated that plainly anywhere else this week. But the Extended Look did reveal something that matters more for cheats than a code list would have — and almost nobody has connected it yet.

The wanted system has been rebuilt from the ground up. And that has direct consequences for the two most-searched cheat codes in Grand Theft Auto history.

What Rockstar actually released

On August 27, 2026, Rockstar premiered Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look — roughly 26 minutes of gameplay footage — on Netflix, with a free YouTube release about six hours later. Alongside it came more than 20 new official screenshots and a wave of hands-on previews from outlets flown out to Rockstar North.

Between the presentation and the previews, well over 150 new details came out.

Cheat codes were not among them. No console command, no button sequence, no phone number, no menu. Rockstar didn't mention the word.

That silence isn't nothing, though. Read on.

The six-star wanted system is back — and that's the cheat story

The single most important reveal for anyone who cares about cheats: GTA 6 restores the six-star wanted level.

GTA V capped you at five stars. GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas all went to six. The Extended Look showed a HUD with six stars during a police chase, confirming the sixth star is back after thirteen years.

Rockstar has not said what the sixth star actually triggers.

But the system underneath it is where things get genuinely new. According to Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, speaking to IGN on the day of the reveal, a crime that nobody witnesses and no alarm reports simply doesn't register. The police have to actually find out.

And once they're onto you, they track you by description. The Extended Look showed four icons sitting alongside the stars, representing what the cops have clocked: your face, your clothes, your vehicle, and the fact that Jason and Lucia are together.

Which means you can now beat a wanted level by changing your appearance:

  • Change your hairstyle to defeat facial recognition

  • Change your clothes to break the description they're working from

  • Wear a mask to stop CCTV identifying you

There's also a distinction between white stars and red stars. Break direct contact with pursuing police and your white stars turn red — the cops are still hunting you, but they're no longer in active pursuit.

Why this matters for the wanted level cheats

Look at the two codes that have appeared in every GTA cheat list for the last decade: Raise Wanted Level and Lower Wanted Level.

In GTA V, those were simple. A wanted level was one number between zero and five, and the cheat just moved it up or down a notch.

That number no longer exists in the same form. In GTA 6, a wanted level is a bundle of state: how many stars, whether pursuit is active, and four separate flags for what the police have identified about you.

So what would "Lower Wanted Level" even do now? Drop a star? Clear the pursuit? Wipe the description flags so the cops forget your face?

Those are three completely different outcomes, and Rockstar hasn't hinted at any of them.

This is the clearest signal yet that GTA 6's cheats — if they exist at all — will not be a copy-paste of GTA V's list. The systems underneath have changed too much for the old codes to map cleanly.

So will GTA 6 have cheat codes at all?

Still unconfirmed, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing.

What we know:

  • Rockstar removed cheats entirely from GTA Online

  • Cheats have never appeared in a GTA marketing beat before launch, so their absence from the Extended Look isn't evidence either way

  • GTA V shipped with a full cheat list on day one and Rockstar never announced it in advance — players found the codes

That last point is the one to hold onto. The absence of cheats in the Extended Look tells us almost nothing about whether they're in the game. Rockstar has simply never used pre-launch marketing to talk about cheats.

We'll know on November 19, 2026, and not before.

What the community caught that Rockstar didn't say

Rockstar narrated almost none of the Extended Look. It just showed things. That left the community to do the decoding, and r/GTA6 has spent the last few days pulling the footage apart frame by frame.

Three threads are worth your time — and two of them have real implications for cheat codes.

1. The scale of the reaction

Reddit r/GTA6 thread titled "The hair physics are f***ing mental" with 33,000 upvotes, showing GTA 6 Extended Look footage of two characters standing up from a table

The single biggest post of the week wasn't about the story, the map, or the six-star wanted system. It was a clip of two NPCs standing up from a table.

That tells you something about where expectations sit. The top comment isn't even about the hair — it's someone reflecting on how this subreddit used to lose its mind over a single screenshot, and how far things have come since.

Worth remembering when you read the cheat code speculation everywhere else this week. A community this starved for information will fill any silence with guesses.

Note: censor the title on your page if you'd rather keep it clean — write it as "The hair physics are f*ing mental" and it still reads clearly.**

2. The iFruit pad — and why it matters for cheats

Reddit r/GTA6 post spotting Lucia using a tablet in the GTA 6 Extended Look, which fans have nicknamed the iFruit pad

While most people were watching Jason's backflip animation, one user noticed Lucia using a tablet during a scene with a drink — and spotted what looks like the same device in the hands of an NPC in the elevator sequence. The consensus guess is an "iFruit pad," a tablet version of the iFruit phone from GTA V.

The thread's theory is that it's tied to the social media feed, with speculation that because there's no first-person mode, the phone will be viewed over the shoulder in third person, similar to how weapon cleaning worked in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Here's the part nobody in that thread connected, and it's the reason this post exists.

The in-game phone has been a cheat entry method in Grand Theft Auto since GTA IV. You open the phone, dial a specific number, and the cheat activates. GTA V shipped with a full set of phone-number cheats alongside the button combinations — dialling a number was often faster than punching in a ten-input sequence.

So a thread about a tablet UI is, for our purposes, a thread about a plausible cheat input method.

If GTA 6 ships with a fully realised phone and tablet interface — and everything in the Extended Look suggests it does — then a phone-based cheat system is more likely than not, because the delivery mechanism is already built and already central to the game.

None of this is confirmed. Rockstar has said nothing about cheats. But if you're trying to guess where GTA 6's cheats will live, the phone is the best bet on the table right now.

3. NPCs that were already there — and what it means for the wanted system

Reddit r/GTA6 thread pointing out that the attackers in the GTA 6 party shootout were already positioned outside the gate before the scene began

Credit for this catch goes to @thecassinigames on X, via the thread's original poster.

Rewatching the party shootout sequence, people noticed the attacking group was already positioned outside the main gate before the scene began — and that Jason turns his head toward them as he walks in, as if registering something's wrong. Given his military background, that read lands.

The top comment goes further, pointing out that a character inside the building behaves suspiciously throughout, appearing to keep Andrea from leaving the office, and that there's another figure crouched near the same office before Jason arrives.

In other words: the scene wasn't scripted to start when Jason walked in. Those NPCs were being simulated in the world, in position, doing things, before the player got there.

That's the same machinery behind the new wanted system.

Rob Nelson told IGN that in GTA 6, a crime nobody witnesses and no alarm reports doesn't trigger a police response at all. That only works if NPCs are genuinely simulated — actually present, actually able to see things — rather than spawning when the game decides a scene should begin.

The party shootout is evidence that they are.

And that matters for cheats, because it means "Lower Wanted Level" is no longer a simple variable to flip. If the police are tracking your face, your clothes and your car, and if witnesses are real entities with real sightlines, then clearing a wanted level is a much messier operation than it was in GTA V.

Which is exactly why we're not publishing GTA V's wanted level codes as though they'll work on November 19.

All three threads are worth reading in full — the comment sections have caught details we haven't covered here. You can follow the ongoing discussion at r/GTA6.

Where this leaves us

Three threads, two real signals:

  • The phone is the most likely home for GTA 6's cheats, if cheats exist, because it's already built and already central

  • The old wanted level codes are unlikely to carry over cleanly, because the system they targeted no longer works the way it did

Everything else is guessing, including this. We'll know on November 19.

A note on the leaked footage

Nine days before the Extended Look, unofficial gameplay footage surfaced online and spread fast. Rockstar has been issuing takedown notices against it since.

We aren't linking to it, embedding it, or describing what's in it.

It's stolen material under active enforcement, and the official 26 minutes gave us more than the leak ever did.

If you see a site hosting that footage, that's a site willing to risk a takedown for traffic. Take the rest of what they publish with the appropriate amount of salt.

What happens next on this site

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

From launch day, we test codes as they surface and update our cheat list continuously. Every code carries a status: Unconfirmed means it's carried over from GTA V and untested in GTA 6. Confirmed means it's been entered in-game and verified.

Anyone publishing "confirmed" GTA 6 cheat codes before November 19 is guessing. We'd rather tell you what we don't know yet.

Frequently asked questions

Did Rockstar show any cheat codes in the GTA 6 Extended Look?

No. Cheat codes were not shown or mentioned in the 26-minute presentation or in any of the press previews published alongside it.

Does GTA 6 have a six-star wanted level?

Yes. Rockstar confirmed the return of the six-star system in the Extended Look, up from GTA V's five-star cap. What the sixth star triggers has not been explained.

Will the GTA V wanted level cheats work in GTA 6?

Unknown, and less likely than it used to be. GTA 6's wanted system tracks multiple separate states rather than a single number, so a direct carryover of the old codes is improbable.

Can you lower your wanted level without a cheat in GTA 6?

Yes. The Extended Look showed that changing your hairstyle, changing clothes, or wearing a mask can defeat the ways police identify you.

When will GTA 6 cheat codes be confirmed?

November 19, 2026, at the earliest — when players can actually enter them.
