Will Cheat Codes Work in GTA 6 Online?
Cheat codes do not work in GTA Online, and are not expected to work in GTA 6's online mode. Rockstar removed cheats entirely from GTA Online and has given no indication that changes in GTA 6.
GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026. Rockstar has confirmed an online component will continue in some form but has not published details of how it works, so nothing below is confirmed for GTA 6 specifically — it's based on how every Grand Theft Auto game has handled this for the last decade.
Why cheats don't work online
Cheat codes are a single-player feature. They're built into story mode as a deliberate part of the game, and the code that recognises them simply isn't active in the online world.
The reason is economic as much as technical. GTA Online's entire structure depends on scarcity — vehicles, weapons and property cost money, and money takes time or real currency to earn. A working invincibility or weapons cheat would collapse that overnight, along with the revenue that made GTA Online the financial backbone of GTA V for more than a decade.
Expect GTA 6 to be built the same way, and probably more aggressively.
Will using cheats in story mode get you banned from online?
No. Cheat codes used in single-player story mode do not affect your online account and have never resulted in a ban in any Grand Theft Auto game. Story mode and online are separate systems with separate save data.
What cheats do affect in story mode is achievement and trophy progress — in GTA V, activating a cheat disabled achievements for that play session. Nothing was permanently lost, and reloading a save without cheats restored normal progress.
The thing that gets you banned is different, and it's covered below.
What does get you banned
Third-party mod menus, trainers, and modified game files. These aren't cheat codes — they're external software that injects into the game, and using them in an online session is what Rockstar bans for.
In GTA Online, Rockstar has run repeated ban waves against mod menu users, and consequences have ranged from money wipes to permanent account suspension. Accounts that lose a ban appeal lose everything on them, including purchased content.
GTA 6 is expected to ship with stronger anti-cheat than GTA V did, given how much of a problem modding became in GTA Online's later years.
Short version: the cheat codes on this site are a built-in single-player feature and are safe. Downloaded mod menus are not, and we don't link to them.
What about money glitches in online?
Glitches are a grey area. They're not external software, so they don't trigger anti-cheat the way a mod menu does — but Rockstar has historically patched them quickly and has removed money from accounts that gained it through exploits.
If GTA 6's online mode follows the same pattern, expect glitches to surface within days of launch, get patched within weeks, and carry some risk of a money wipe in between.
What you can use in online instead
Nothing that functions like a cheat code. What's actually available is the legitimate progression — missions, heists, businesses and events that pay well relative to the time they take.
Once GTA 6's online mode is live and its economy is understood, we'll cover the methods that actually work and label them the same way we label everything else: tested or untested, with a date.
