Do GTA 5 Cheat Codes Work in GTA 6?

Nobody knows yet, because Grand Theft Auto 6 does not launch until November 19, 2026. But the history of the series suggests GTA 5's exact button sequences are unlikely to work unchanged. What does reliably carry forward between Grand Theft Auto games is the type of cheat — invincibility, weapons, wanted level, spawned vehicles — rather than the specific inputs used to trigger them.

That distinction matters, and it is the reason every code on this site is labelled Unconfirmed until someone has tested it in the released game.

What has actually happened between GTA games

Cheat entry has been redesigned almost every time Rockstar has released a new Grand Theft Auto. It is not a system they have carried forward intact.

The early games used the name entry screen. In the original Grand Theft Auto, typing HANGTHEDJ as your name enabled god mode. There were no button sequences at all.

GTA III introduced button-sequence codes on console, with typed words as the PC equivalent. Spawning a Rhino tank took a controller sequence on PS2 and the typed word GIVEUSATANK on PC — two completely different inputs for the same result.

Vice City and San Andreas both shipped large cheat lists in the same style, but with their own sequences. A player who memorised San Andreas codes could not use them in Vice City.

GTA IV moved to phone numbers. Button sequences were dropped entirely. You opened your character's in-game phone, dialled a number, and the cheat activated. Nothing from the previous generation transferred.

GTA V brought back button sequences, with its own new set, and later added phone cheats back in the Enhanced Edition.

Five transitions, and the input method or the specific codes changed at every one.

What does carry forward

he cheats themselves. Across more than twenty years, the same handful of effects has appeared in nearly every mainline game:

  • Invincibility or restored health

  • Weapon sets

  • Raising and lowering your wanted level

  • Spawning specific vehicles

  • Weather control

  • Slow motion

  • Explosive or altered ammunition

  • Super jump and movement modifiers

Pedestrian riot mode is one of the few long-running staples that did not return in the HD-era games. Almost everything else has survived every generation in some form.

So the useful prediction is not "this exact sequence will work." It is "a cheat that does this will probably exist, and we'll know its input on launch day."

Then why do we list GTA 5's codes?

Because they are the best available starting point, and because the alternative is publishing nothing.

GTA 5's list tells you which cheats are likely to exist in GTA 6 and roughly what shape their inputs take. It gives testers something concrete to try on launch night rather than guessing blind. And on November 19 it becomes a checklist: every code gets tested, and every one is marked Confirmed or corrected within hours.

What we will not do is tell you they work when nobody has tried them. Every code on this site carries a status label and a date. If a site shows you "GTA 6 cheat codes" with no such label before the game is out, those are GTA 5's codes presented as something they are not.

The case that GTA 6 might
reuse them

There is a reasonable argument on the other side, and it is worth stating fairly.

GTA 5 has been actively maintained for over a decade, including the recent Enhanced Edition. Rockstar's tooling and conventions have had far more continuity across GTA 5's lifespan than they did across the gaps between older titles. A developer reusing an existing, well-tested cheat system is not unusual.

Players also have muscle memory for these sequences. There is a real argument for keeping what people already know.

It is possible. It is just not what the series' history would predict.

The case against

Beyond the historical pattern, there is a structural reason to be cautious.

Cheats were removed entirely from GTA Online, where the in-game economy depends on scarcity — and GTA Online was the financial backbone of GTA 5 for more than ten years. GTA 6 is built around a persistent online component from the start. A single-player cheat system that players could find ways to leverage against that economy is a risk Rockstar has to weigh.

Rockstar has said nothing about GTA 6's cheats either way. Not a confirmation, not a denial.

What happens on November 19

New Zealand and Australia get the game roughly 18 to 20 hours before most of the world. Testing starts there, with players we have lined up in advance, and results come back with video.

Our rule is two independent sources with proof before anything is marked Confirmed. One video means "reported working, pending verification." Two means Confirmed, with the date and the tester credited.

Codes that turn out not to work get marked as such and stay on the page. A list that only shows wins is not a useful list.
